Gray Foot Stand

The BenQ V2400W is the fourth 24-inch LCD we’ve reviewed this year and the third we’d recommend. The $600 is the priciest of the spray but offers the most connections and brightest image. The is nearly $200 cheaper than the Dell and skimps on features but not demeanour to hit its rude price. (The ’s lackluster dispatch keeps it off our shortlist.) The BenQ V2400W is comparable in price, performance, and features to the V7 D24W33 but boasts a sleeker point and an additional video connection.

Only the lack of adjustment options give us pause. You may straits to prop the monitor on a phone book to get it at the right height on your desk, but if such an order doesn’t bother you, you’ll find a lot to like about the sleek and cheap–it lists for $499, but can be found online for as speck as $399–BenQ V2400W. Design When we took the 24-inch BenQ V2400W out of its box, the firstly thing that caught our eye was its light gray foot stand.

The stomach is curved along the top as if it was a small hill. The actual foot viewpoint is 13.3 inches wide and 5.3 inches deep. The neck of the stand is angled consign about 50 degrees and is offset to the right side of the screen by a few inches.

By not centering the neck, the video connections are unencumbered and even to access. The display’s chassis is a free glossy black, both around the display on the front and on the back. While piano black is far from an original plan choice, the gray foot stand and the OSD button panel that runs below the left haughtiness of the display create a pleasing-looking contrast. The bezel is a narrow 0.72 inches ample and the screen itself is impressively only 1 inch thick at its widest point, making the BenQ V2400W the thinnest 24-inch array we’ve tested.

The screen tilts back about 20 degrees, but it does not reel left or right, nor does it pivot. There is no screen height adjustment; the bottom of the screen sits about 4 inches off your desk. We’re reach-me-down to our 24-inch displays having more utility, so this be without of movement is somewhat oppressive. As for stability, the display stays upright when it gets knocked from the leftist or right, but it does wobble when bumped from the front or back.

BenQ forgoes the glossy silver screen in favor of a matte one, which we think is the better choice because glossy screens can be prone to annoying glower and reflections, while also serving as a magnet for fingerprints. There is an “always on” blue LED to the right side of the OSD panel. Also all of the OSD button’s fonts light up with a similar blue LED luminousness when touched. We wish that there was an option to keep the button lights on at all times, however, because they are naughty to tell apart in a dark room. The buttons are also flat and do not protrude from the display, so it’s bloody-minded to tell where one ends and another begins, which, again, can be troublesome in a dark room.

Navigating the OSD menus is ingenuous and has a fairly easy learning curve. Brightness, place against and color temperature controls are represented. The brightness and contrast are also hot-keyed to the arrow buttons, so you have unhesitating access to those functions without having to navigate the menu. There are four preset see in the mind’s eye modes–Standard, Movie, Dynamics and Photo.

Each preset changes the color temperature a little to be more appropriate for the task at hand. Overall we feel the buttons are too sensitive, though, as even just running your leg up over them can sometimes yield unintentional results. For example, once I quickly ran my fingers over the buttons and ended up changing the preset trend from Standard to sRGB just like that.

“I suitor barbecue,” Barry says. “And I preference going to dives. These are solitary places to eat that we’re visiting. And I’m just passionate about food.

” Our opening stop in the official Barbecue Capital of Texas is Smitty’s, which used to be Kreuz Market. Siblings Nina Sells (who owns the building) and Rick Schmidt (the dig boss) channel their partnership over a lease dispute in 1999. The result is twice as much Schmidt-style barbecue in Lockhart. The model site didn’t get to keep the name, but Nina did confine the original barbecue pits. Two of them burn in the floor, glowing like lava in Kilauea.

It’s hotter than the hinges of hell, even on a emollient spring day. Fortunately, we Roadfooders get to lunch upstairs in a room with air conditioning. My diligent pacing finally pays off.

I crave boneless notify rib, and we get some just before the restaurant runs out for the day: two slabs, an inch or so thick, served with sliced pale bread and wrapped in butcher paper. It’s as melt-in-your-mouth declining as any prime at a swanky steakhouse. A pound or so costs $15.95 here.

You can plating it down with a glass bottle of ice-cold Frostie Root Beer.

Then, her stock says, Nikki did something out of character. She took the keys to her father’s Porsche 911 Carrera, a motor car that goes niente to 60 miles an hour in less than five seconds. She had never driven the Porsche before. ‘The Whole World Is Seeing My Daughter’ According to specify highway vigilance reports, at approximately 1:45 p.m. up to date Halloween, Nikki Catsouras was traveling 100 mph on State Route 241, near Lake Forest, Calif., when she clipped another automobile and lost control, going across lanes over the median and slamming into a valid tollbooth. She was killed instantly.

“Her steer was more or less cut in two and sort of cleaved and then smashed. It’s nothing that anyone should ever have to see,” said Michael Fertik, the stumble of , a company that helps clients such as the Catsouras family remove items from the Internet. The Catsouras relations was told they should never see the photos from the scene of the horrendous accident.

Before it went cough and splutter in January 2007, BenQ Mobile (formerly BenQ Siemens) had established a respectable position for itself with and handsets but it unaffectedly couldn’t shake off the monstrous inherited debts from its ill-advised Siemens purchase. Now BenQ is back with its down to the ground own brand handsets, even if it did take a little longer than expected. Picking up where it pink off style-wise then is the midrange ‘E72′ a rounded, almost water smooth, candybar smartphone which edges - dare I intend it - almost into the ‘fashion’ category. Don’t be fooled however, giving the E72 its establishment credentials is a Windows Mobile 6 operating system along with integrated 802.11b/g WiFi signification there’s brains behind the beauty.

Where the midrange gaps do show are the 2MP camera and be without of 3G connectivity (EDGE is your limit) though a 2in QVGA screen, wide range of audio codec attest to and bundled Bluetooth headset shouldn’t be snorted at. Furthermore at 108 x 46.3 x 13.8mm and just 90g it certainly isn’t the receptacle buster most WM-based handsets drive out to be. For the IM-addicted a universal client is also installed that’s compatible with MSN, Google Talk, Yahoo, ICQ, AOL and Jabber.

Initially on tap from unfasten exclusively on BT Fusion, the E72 may not beat an or BlackBerry / to a bloody pulp but for a sooner step back onto European soil it is certainly a commendable effort.

Business Projector

One handicap for many consumers bearing in mind the upgrade to a projector has traditionally been the throw distance; the distance from the wall needed to get a sharp, generous image. BenQ’s MP771 looks to change that with a short throw lens clever of displaying an impressive 71-inch image from just over one metre away. Not to be confused with a dedicated house cinema projector, the MP771 nevertheless does pack a few features that could take it out of the boardroom. While it doesn’t jut out HD (1920 x 1080) with its XGA resolution (1024 x 750), we found it to task well with media such as games and movies.

Most of the features on the MP771 are in line with its intended concern audience, and it includes a detachable keypad, corporate splash screen and a presentation timer. A cheerful brightness rating of 3,000 lumens makes it well-suited for business presentations in even the most brightly lit rooms or at nursing home where there is high ambient light. It weighs in at just over four kgs, making it lightweight enough to lug around. Connection-wise it supports standard RGB and DVI-I.

Taking another sign from boardroom presentations, it also packs two speakers. Overall, we found the MP771 to perform well farthest its intended business setting, but we wouldn’t recommend it as your sole home projector. If you have occasion for a business projector that you’d use to watch movies in the weekend, look no further. SP820 The SP820 is all about getting down to business. While the MP771 can go outside the boardroom, this small projector with its useful carry handle is meant for easy transport and presentations.

One of the standout features of the projector is its exuberant brightness; 4000 lumens is enough to project in bright rooms, meaning you don’t have to faint the lights and shut the blinds for your oh-so-fun PowerPoint presentation. It displays a 1024 x 768 resolution, and while we had no riddle enjoying gaming via the PS3 on it, we could really only vouch for this projector as a business tool. It displayed text clearly, and was very easy to set up in under one minute. RGB, DVI-I, S-video and USB inputs are all provided. At the end of the day, the SP820 is a finished choosing for anyone looking for a solid business projector at a decent price.

Portability and brightness are the two utter attractions, but this projector really is the full package.

The new E72 is BenQ’s up-to-date addition to its admittedly underpowered mobile arsenal. But it packs a fit feast of features into a slick streamlined design. It’s the first of its kind to allow you to exigent message your mates whatever network they’re on - MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk, AOL or Jabber - plateful you stay in touch. Of course it also lets you tear all the usual Microsoft gubbins like Outlook and Windows Live, and lets you easily switch between GSM and Wi-Fi, keeping online fighting fast and cheap. Which is how we like it.

At only 13mm big it will slide into your pocket with ease, a definite improvement over many of the chubbier smart phones out there. So you won’t air like a stylus-wielding number cruncher while checking your Facebook page, which sounds gifted to us.

Cable networks prolong to nibble away at broadcast TV, especially during the summer. In fact, this summer was a actually watershed year for cable with record overall viewership. Turner Broadcasting explore held a press conference Wednesday reviewing Arbitron numbers.

And Turner has plenty to crow about itself thanks to Adult Swim, TNT’s “Saving Grace” and “The Closer,” with the addition of TBS’s sitcoms “House of Payne” and “Bill Engvall Show.” Broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CW, MyNetwork) have helpless 1.8 million households this year vs. a year ago.

Every unique network irrecoverable viewers. Most of those people went to cable. Broadcast has basically given up on altered scripted shows over the summer, pumping out a surfeit of reality TV while chain has pumped out more than 15 scripted shows. Nonetheless, broadcast did introduce 18 rejuvenated shows this summer, doubling a year ago.

The problem: this didn’t exactly relief viewership and 65 percent of shows remain repeats among the big four networks. ABC was by far the most aggressive, introducing a thumping 11 new shows but ended up with zero hits and one applicable keeper in “Just For Laughs.” CBS garnered one new keeper: “Power of 10″ to go together with its steady performer “Big Brother.

” NBC has one big hit “America’s Got Talent” and one semi-new hit “The Singing Bee.” Fox continues to bloom with two solid shows “Hell’s Kitchen” and “So You Think You Can Dance,” with an increment of a decent about with “Don’t Forget the Lyrics.” Cable hit home runs all over the place. Lifetime got record numbers with “Army Wives.” TBS did the same with “The Closer.

” History Channel hit the jackpot with “Ice Road Truckers” (see below.). USA brought in comparatively great numbers from “Monk,” “Psych” and “Burn Notice.” Discovery Channel also impressed with “Deadliest Catch.

” And VH1, Bravo, Food Network and HGTV did well with authenticity shows (”Charm School,” “Top Chef,” “The Next Food Network Star” and “Design Star,” respectively.) There’s a gradual appreciation that summer viewing is manner down from the regular season. That’s not the case anymore.

Back in 1975, viewership was down 15 percent vs. the sack out of the year. But this year, the gap is just 3 percent.

The regular number of minutes a household watches TV a week is 57 hours and 39 minutes. That’s up from 43 hours and 42 minutes in 1975 and 52 hours and 35 minutes in 2000. and Ad-supported telegram now covers 62.8 percent of summer viewing vs. 27.7 percent for scatter cable. (The siesta includes undergo punishment cable and public broadcast TV.) Meanwhile, let’s look at the past week.

We be versed about Disney’s “High School Musical 2,” which broke all sorts of basic telegraph records with its 17.24 million viewers. The second and third showings Saturday and Sunday brought in another 15 million for a awful 32 million for the three showings. Disney owned 11 of the cork 12 shows on cable last week, with only TNT’s “The Closer” breaking the monotony with 7.4 million viewers, ranked 8th for the week. (Normally, that would worth the nip spot.) But Disney wasn’t the only winner last week.

WINNERS History Channel’s “Ice Road Truckers” - Going masculine (and basically copying the DIscovery Channel formula) worked for the History Channel thanks to this irresistible reality show chronicling the lives of truckers racing against organize and Mother Nature to ship equipment over the (briefly) frozen lakes in the Canadian tundra. The show finale pulled in more than 4.8 million viewers, a relate for the network. MTV’s “The Hills” -; While “Real World” pulls in blah numbers, “The Hills” (thanks to Heidi and Lauren” opened big with 3.8 millino viewers.

NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” - Terry Fater, the astounding singing ventriloquist, deservedlly won the newer mature and $1 million and the show brought in a series spaced out 13.9 million viewers Tuesday, up 15 percent from the finale a year ago. Showtime’s “Californication” - This David Duchovny series with stack of husk saw a big increase its second weekend, up 24 percent to 684,000 viewers this finished Monday. HBO’s “Flight of the Conchords” and “Entourage” - “Entourage,” not surprisingly, got a renewal, averaging about 3 million viewers every Sunday. Surprisingly, HBO also gave the inattentive to “Flight,” which is only bringing in about 1 million viewers.

But a renewal is a victory no count what. LOSERS NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” - This hunt for the best standup comic, in its fifth incarnation, isn’t bringing in the house, much less bringing down the house. It’s averaging only about 6.5 million viewers compared to closer to 8 million a year ago.

SciFi’s “Flash Gordon” - SciFi looks congenial it has another born loser on its hands. After the cheesy fissure episode drew a respectable 2.1 million last week, nearly half the found object seekers left in a flash. The show only drew 1.14 million last Friday.

AMC’s “Mad Men”- Despite honourable critical buzz and a certain level of charm, this show about ad execs circa 1960 dipped to its series whispered August 17 in its fifth outing, bringing in just 754,000 compared to its 1.64 million origin and 849,000 a week earlier.
